Research

Research areas covered at the institute include important topics of foundation engineering, tunneling, soil and rock mechanics, and environmental engineering. Current projects focus primarily on geotechnical design, stability analysis, sustainability of geo-structures and on the more complex coupled processes often active in natural and anthropogenic hazard scenarios.

Education

Engineers have to be able to design and construct in both soil and rock, above and below ground, and on a scientific, safety-oriented and economic basis. This necessitates a thorough grounding in material behaviour and applied mechanics, together with a basic introduction to design and construction of typical geotechnical engineering systems. Our education activities cover all of these aspects.
